Riverside Folk Song Society

For over 40 years, the Riverside Folk Song Society has met monthly to share songs and the love of music with musicians and listeners.

We are a small group - about 35 members - and often have gatherings of only a dozen people.  Most members live in the Inland Empire, but some come from as far away as Los Angeles and Orange Counties.  We provide a welcoming venue for newer musicians or singers looking for a friendly atmosphere in which to preview a new tune.

Our regular meetings are on the 3rd Saturday of the month, from 7:00 to 11:00 pm.  The first half hour is social time, allowing the musicians to tune their instruments.  The normal procedure is to go around in a circle, allowing everyone a chance to perform or suggest a song, usually relating to a pre-determined theme. We take a break at about 9:30 for announcements, light refreshments, and visiting. When we reconvene for the last hour, we usually abandon the theme and have a less-structured sharing of music.

We meet in the homes of the members, rotating to a new location each month. For the sake of privacy, those addresses will not be included here; but if you would like to join us, please contact us by email and we will send you information on the location of the upcoming meeting.

We have at least one "special" meeting per year - an excursion to Idyllwild. Occasionally we will adjust the meeting day to the 2nd or 4th Saturday, if members' schedules dictate. And, from time to time, a potluck-dinner meeting is thrown into the schedule.  The specifics of each meeting are decided from one to three months in advance so everyone knows what to expect.

Membership

If, after you attend a gathering, you wish to join the group, the dues are affordable: $2.00/person or $3.00/couple for a year, calculated from January to December. We have no provisions for "partial-year" dues, nor do we have a rotating payment arrangement (but, considering that most similar groups charge as much as $15/year for membership, our low-cost arrangement keeps that from being an issue).  Note: most of our "flyers" are sent via email and include the meeting information for 3 months at a time, one way we are able to keep the cost so low.  To request information on an upcoming meeting, please email: mailto:rfss@hibben.org.

We look forward to hearing from you!
